What Time Is It in Vienna, New York, San Francisco?
It’s tough enough keeping track of time differences everywhere, and then Daylight Saving Time kicks in. I decided I’d check around to see what I could find out.
To keep track of where daylight saving time is or isn’t used, check the Worldwide Daylight Saving Time Web site. If you really want to delve into the world of Daylight Saving Time, there’s About.com’s Daylight Saving Time section by Matt Rosenberg and a site by Ann Salzman at the University of Illinois called (not surprisingly!) Daylight Saving Time. Both sites offer lots of resources for everything you want to know and then some.
Check the Time Anywhere
Chaos Software (formerly iSbiSTER), makers of the great Time & Chaos time management software, also have a world time site, recently renamed The World Time Server. Pick your country, the city, and click on the link to see what time it is there. It’s especially handy for trying to keep track of all the time changes with friends, colleagues, and acquaintances all over the world. This has been one of my favorite bookmarks.
Keep Your Computer’s Time Accurate
There are lots of free utilities to help you keep your computer clock accurate, too. A great one that I’ve used every day for a few years now is WebTime 2000, by Gregory Braun. (formerly iSBiSTER) Chaos Software also offers a free Atomic Clock Sync. Both of these utilities log in to various servers at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).
